AI ALGORITHMS TEAM
Linfeng Zhang  |  Ph.D Candidate

Linfeng Zhang received his B.S degree in computer science from Northeastern University (Shenyang, China) in 2019. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree under the supervision of Prof. Kaisheng Ma at Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences, Tsinghua University. His research interest includes the compression and acceleration of deep learning models such as knowledge distillation and dynamic neural networks. He is also interested in the design of high-robustness neural networks and computer vision. His papers have been published in top AI conferences such as NeurIPS2019 and ICCV2019.

Zhongfan Jia  |  Ph.D Candidate

Zhongfan Jia is now pursuing his Ph.D. degree in ARChip Lab brain-inspired algorithms team, IIIS, Tsinghua University, from 2020. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Computer Science and Technology at school of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, Peking University. He has a mixed background in both algorithm and computer architecture. His research direction is to explore bio-inspired subhuman AI algorithms and design brand-new suitable architectures. Now he is working on bio-inspired and brain-mimic algorithms about robust recognition, fast learning, and controllable forgetting.

Junbo Zhang  |  Ph.D Candidate

Junbo Zhang graduated from Peking University with the major in Psychology and Computer Science and now is pursuing Ph.D at Tsinghua university. He is a team member in ARChip Lab working on brain-inspired algorithms. He has an interdisciplinary background in cognitive neuroscience and AI algorithm. His research interests lie in exploring brain-inspired AI algorithms which can be more general, flexible, compact and low energy consumption.

Yukang Shi  |  Master Degree Candidate

Yukang Shi joined ARChip Lab for Master Degree from Aug. 2019. She got her bachelor’s degree also from Xi’an Jiaotong University. She won awards in different contests such as Mathematical Contest in Modeling and "Challenge Cup" National College Student Curricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition. She received the National Scholarship and National Inspirational Scholarship from 2016 to 2019. Her current research focuses on the explanation of knowledge distillation, and her broader research interests include point cloud and autonomous driving.

Tan Sia Huat  |  Master Degree Candidate

Tan Sia Huat was born in Sarawak, Malaysia. He received his B.S. degree in Computer Science and Information Engineering from National Cheng Kung University in 2019. He received a full scholarship from school during the whole period of undergraduate. He is currently pursuing M.S. degree at Tsinghua University in China with a full Chinese Government Scholarship. His current research focuses on deep learning algorithm and robustness of deep learning models.

Runpei Dong  |  Master Degree Candidate

Runpei Dong is currently pursuing his Master degree in ARChip Lab. Prior to that, he obtained his B.S degree in computer science from Xidian University. During his bachelor period, he worked on Semantic Segmentation and made some breakthroughs. He has a broad interest in Pattern Recognition & Computer Vision and currently he's working on the design of Deep Neural Network algorithms with high efficiency, mathematical interpretability and application-adaptability.

Yanming Wan  |  Undergraduate

Yanming Wan is now a sophomore at IIIS, Tsinghua University. He was born in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China. He participated in mathematics competition in high school and won the gold medal of 2018 Chinese Mathematical Olympiad. He is new to research field but is quite interested in bio-inspired and brain-mimic AI algorithms as well as the potential mathematical explanations behind them.

Zhihan Cai  |  Master Degree Candidate

Zhihan Cai received her B.S. degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She is currently pursuing her master degree in ARChip Lab, IIIS, Tsinghua University, supervised by Prof. Kaisheng Ma. Her research interests include autonomous driving, robotics, and bio-inspired AI algorithms, which can be applied in biomedicine.

Jan-Henrik Lambrechts  |  Ph.D Candidate

Jan-Henrik Lambrechts is a first-year PhD student in Computer Science, IIIS department, Tsinghua University, advised by Prof. Kaisheng Ma. Before that, he obtained a Bachelor in Commercial Engineering (MIS) degree at Leuven University. His research interests are situated in the area of Machine Intelligence for Computer Vision. More specifically, he works on developing more efficient and robust architectures / training procedures for Deep Convolutional Neural Networks.

Hongyang Chen  |  Ph.D Candidate

Hongyang Chen is currently pursuing Ph.D. degree in ARChip Lab. He received his B.S. degree from Chang'an University, where he ranked first at the Department of Computer Science and was awarded a number of prizes, including the National Scholarship. His research interests include precision, speed, and robust trade-off for general object detection, the robustness and interpretability of the model, especially the detection of frame drops caused by natural factors in reality and the adversarial attacks.

Muzhou Yu  |  Master Degree Candidate

Muzhou Yu is currently pursuing the Master Degree in ARChip Lab. He studied automation during his bachelor’s degree in Northeastern University, China from 2016 to 2020. During his stay in Northeastern University, he was awarded the ‘National scholarship’ for three times and has published papers on the CCC etc. in 2019 and won the first prize in International University Mathematical Modeling Competition. Since 2019, he has joined ARChip Lab as an AI Algorithms team member under the supervision of Prof. Kaisheng Ma. He has a broad interest in AI.

Kailu Wu  |  Undergraduate

Kailu Wu is now an undergraduate at IIIS, Tsinghua University. He was born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. He had some experience in algorithm design and won the gold medal of NOI2017. His current research focuses on neural networks robustness, interpretability, domain adaptation, and he has a wide range of interests about AI.

Dapeng Cao  |  Master Degree Candidate

Dapeng Cao is in his fourth year as an undergraduate in School of Computer Science and Engineering, Nanjing University of Science and Technology. He was born in Chizhou, Anhui Province, China. He participated in many programming competitions and mathematical modeling competitions and won several awards in College. He is an easy-going person who likes communicating with others and an optimistic person who loves enjoying life. Besides, he likes running, climbing and swimming. He joined the ARChip Lab in the autumn of 2020 and his current research focuses on compression-compilation co-design for neural networks computation.

Thaddäus Wiedemer  |  Ph.D Candidate

Thaddäus Wiedemer is pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science under the supervision of professor Kaisheng Ma. He previously graduated top of the class from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) with a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. His background contains both traditional signal processing and modern machine learning. His reasearch interest lies in making deep learning more performant and domain-agnostic while requiring less data and handcrafted designs. He is also interested in compression of neural networks and computer vision.

Yu Duan  |  Undergraduate

Yu Duan is an undergraduate at IIIS, Tsinghua University. He grew up in Changsha, Hunan Province. He has some experience in Olympiad in Informatics and is a gold medalist of NOI2018. As a student from Zhi class, he’s interested in many subfields of AI, including robustness, self-supervised learning and natural language understanding. He joined the ARChip Lab in the spring of 2021 and is currently doing research on brain-inspired AI algorithms.

AI CHIP ARCHITECURE, DESIGN and TAPOUT TEAM
Zhanhong Tan  |  Ph.D Candidate

Zhanhong Tan is currently pursuing Ph.D. at Institute for Interdisciplinary Information Sciences (IIIS) in Tsinghua University, Beijing. He received his B.S. degree at School of Electronics and Information Technology from Sun-Yat Sen University, Guangzhou, in 2019. During his bachelor period, he was in top-3 on his major ranking and received the National Scholarship. His research interests are computer architecture, hardware-software co-design for neural networks computation, and chip design for edge AI applications, especially for the self-driving scenario. His first paper is accepted by DAC 2020.

Guiming Shi  |  Master Candidate

Guiming Shi got his M.S. degree in IIIS, Tsinghua University and obtained his bachelor’s degree from Electrical Engineering and Automation in the department of electrical engineering, Tsinghua University. His research interests are computer architecture and FPGA design for financial application. He is a veteran college student who served in the Navy, during which he won the excellent soldier twice. Since 2020, he has joined ARChip Lab as an AI Chip team member under the supervision of Prof. Kaisheng Ma.

Yuchen Wei  |  Undergraduate

Yuchen Wei, an undergraduate at IIIS, Tsinghua University, is now in his third year. He has a broad interest in computer architecture and hardware design, which leads to his current research direction on computer architecture, hardware-software co-design for neural networks computation and chip architecture design for edge AI applications. He is now focusing on algorithms on energy-efficient software mapping for executing neural networks on chiplets.

Hang Hu  |  Undergraduate

Hang Hu is in his second year as an undergraduate at IIIS, Tsinghua University. He was born in Mianyang, Sichuan Province, China, and has a hobby of playing chess and swimming. When in high school, he won the gold medal of CMO2018 and entered the national training team for the International Mathematics Olympics. He is interested in hardware design and computer architecture, and now he is learning from Zhanhong Tan and ready to research hardware design and computer architecture.

Yinxiao Feng  |  Ph.D Candidate

Yinxiao Feng is now pursing his Ph.D. degree in IIIS, Tsinghua University. During his Bachelor’s degree in Shanghai JiaoTong University, he majored in Information Engineering (AI direction) and a double degree in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. He was also a member of Zhiyuan Honors Program of Engineering, which consists of the top 5% students of all engineering students at SJTU. During his undergraduate years, he won many distinctive awards and honors, including national scholarship. He has a mixed background and experiences in materials, devices, circuits, algorithms, and hardware. He even has experience of clean room fabrication. He is now participating a team in ARChip Lab, inventing a next-generation single cell level human machine interface.

Zehua Li  |  Ph.D Degree Candidate

Zehua Li received his B.S degree at Department of Microelectronics from Xi’an Jiaotong University. During his bachelor period, he studied in Qian Xuesen Class and ranked the first among students majoring in microelectronics. He also won awards in different contests, including Mathematical Modeling and Mechanics Competition, and got a patent about computer architecture. He used to study as a visiting student of University of California, Berkeley, during which period he participated in the project of RISC-V CPU-design and Discriminator design. His is interested in computer architecture and digital circuit design, especially edge AI chips related to loT.

Jingwei Cai  |  Ph.D Candidate

Jingwei Cai achieved his B.S. degree at School of Electronic Science and Engineering (National Exemplary School of Microelectronics) from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu. During his bachelor period, he ranked the 1st in his major and his weighted average grade was 95.15, which broke the history of the school. He received many prizes such as the National Scholarship(twice), Tang lixin scholarship and so on. He won awards in different contests such as the first prize in the National Mathematics Competition for College Students (23/5300 in Sichuan Province). He has a mixed background and experiences in devices, analog circuits design, digital circuits design. He even has experiences of clean room fabrication and encryption chip designing which is fabricated by SMIC 0.18μm process. His current research interests are computer architecture, hardware-software co-design for neural networks computation and chip architecture design for edge AI applications.

Mengdi Wu  |  Undergraduate

Mengdi Wu is presently in her sophomore year as an undergraduate at IIIS, Tsinghua University. During her high school study, she received some training in algorithm design and won the gold medal of NOI2018. She had some hand-on projects experiences on compiler design before, and was attracted by it. Her current research focuses on high performance code generation for neural networks, and she has also broad interests about programming languages and hardware-software co-design for neural network computation.

IMPLANTABLE CHIPS TEAM
Qichao Ma  |  Engineer

Qichao Ma received his B.S. degree in Telecommunications form XiDian University in 2015 and M.S. degree in Electronics from Polytech Nice Sophia, France in 2018. In 2018, he has worked on IC design as an intern in Ethertronics SAS France for six months. Since 2019, He has joined ARChip lab to conduct research on Silicon Neural Component Dust. His current research focuses on ultrasound imaging, backscattering communication, energy harvesting and radio frequency integrated circuit design for energy harvesting and backscattering communication.

Huijie Sun  |  Undergraduate

Huijie Sun is now an undergraduate at department of Physics, Tsinghua University. She is interested in single cell level human machine interface. Her current research focus on the wireless power transmission for implants in the brain.

SUPPORTING TEAM
Yijie Guan  |  Research Assistant

Yijie Guan got her bachelor's degree from Beijing Normal University with a major in English Language and Literature. She has got the certificate of TEM-8. Now she is a research assistant in ARchip lab. Within the lab, she is responsible for all work besides research, including translation, English writing verification, financial affairs, administration, and all details that keep the lab running.
